A human connection to nature, using leather and driftwood
Taking leather beyond the typical, we have contributed our TERRA® leather collection to the art project Nomadic Dialogues — Between Body and Nature, developed by Atelier Plateau in collaboration with Sørensen Leather and Norm Architects.
In our ongoing quest to explore new and engaging ways of working with leather, the project moves the material beyond conventional applications and into an experimental, spatial context. Here, Atelier Plateau examines fundamental elements of nomadic dwelling and the human connection to nature, using leather and driftwood to create experiences that are both poetic, sensorial, and functional.
Human connection to nature has increasingly been challenged as society has developed. Through Nomadic Dialogues — Between Body and Nature, Atelier Plateau seeks to reawaken this connection by exploring how materials such as leather and driftwood can create spaces that revive our perception of, and relationship with, nature.
Leather as a Nomadic Material
Unfolding where art, design, and architecture converge, the project explores leather as a nomadic material — shifting, adaptable, and deeply tied to human history. In conversation with driftwood gathered from nature, the works emerge as forms that are both lived-in and poetic, appearing at the intersection of function and sensorial experience.
Leather has accompanied humankind for millennia — as clothing, shelter, and surface. It carries both body and structure, protects, supports, and transforms. In Nomadic Dialogues — Between Body and Nature, this heritage is reinterpreted: one material serves multiple roles, allowing it to move between poetry and purpose.
The Dialogue Between Driftwood and Leather
Driftwood and leather combine in shifting ways. Driftwood — the carrying — belongs to nature, positioned according to its own form and grounding. Leather — the carried — responds to the human body. Together, the materials create forms that are sculptural and functional, inviting sitting, lying, and standing.
