Leather for a Warm and Welcoming Healthcare Environment
At the new Privathospitalet Mølholm in Vejle, Denmark, TRIUMPH CRIB5® is used for the cushions on benches in shared areas, and for chairs placed throughout the building. The brown leather contributes with a warm, tactile element to the hospital’s interior, while meeting the practical demands of a healthcare environment.
Developed with durability requirements in mind, TRIUMPH CRIB5® combines a refined leather expression with properties suited for spaces where hygiene, frequent cleaning and everyday use are essential.
The new Privathospitalet Mølholm is designed around a clear ambition to create a healthcare environment that feels comfortable, calm and welcoming. Natural materials, earthy tones and varied textures create an atmosphere that is closer to a homely setting than a conventional clinical environment.
Located beside a protected forest and surrounded by a rewild landscape, the hospital brings nature into the patient experience through views and direct access to peaceful outdoor spaces. Inside, TRIUMPH CRIB5® in a warm brown shade, used on benches and chairs, adds a natural, tactile surface that complements the Flensborg brick from Petersen Tegl, Thermo Ash wood and natural stone. Together, the materials create a balanced and nature-inspired palette, where the softness and warmth of the leather help bring the more solid architectural materials closer to the human scale.
The project is among the first healthcare projects in Denmark to achieve DGNB Gold certification, reflecting the client KIRKBI’s ambition to a sustainable and high-quality healthcare environment.
A residential approach to healthcare
The new hospital was designed and developed by RAVN Arkitektur in collaboration with Privathospitalet Mølholm, NIRAS, MBYland, KG Hansen and KIRKBI.
The architectural approach draws on the materiality and atmosphere often associated with residential architecture. Natural materials, tactile surfaces and earthy colours are used to create a calm environment with the patient experience at its center. The use of leather throughout the seating contributes to this residential character, adding warmth, softness and tactility while supporting the functional requirements of a healthcare setting.
