VEGETAL® Leather Adds Warmth in Seoul’s Bornyon restaurant
In Seoul’s new Bornyon restaurant, a main theme in the design is the passage of time. The decision to choose the Swan chair from Fritz Hansen, upholstered with our biodegradable and compostable leather collection VEGETAL®, was driven by a desire to create a lasting sense of beauty in the space.
When Youngkwon Kim (from PLAYA) and Geonyoung Kang (from A-D-O Design Architecture Office) collaborated on the interior design of the restaurant, they were captivated by the leather’s ability to age gracefully.
“I have come to believe that true durability is about furniture that becomes more beautiful over time. For these reasons, I found natural leather highly appealing because even if it gets stained with wine or marks from hands, it ages beautifully. I imagine it would be very welcoming to see those marks when revisiting the restaurant in ten years’ time”, explains Youngkwon Kim in an interview made by Fritz Hansen.
VEGETAL® represents the epitome of authentic leather. Considered ‘naked,’ it remains as nature intended and is a type of aniline leather that will develop a beautiful, natural patina with use.
