Authenticity

To begin with, real leather is an organic material and a by-product from nature. Other materials, such as faux leather, leatherette, vegan leather and the like are not real leather.

Compare real leather to fake leather and the list of leather’s advantages is long.

Real leather has an authentic, innate beauty that you can see and feel.

We select the highest quality raw hides, typically from Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Scandinavia.

In contrast, fake leather is most often made with chemicals like polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a synthetic plastic polymer that, even after disposed of, can release toxins into the earth, water and food chain. A common alternative is polyurethane (PU), a petrochemical resin containing toxic compounds. Included in the category of artificial leathers is vegan leather which, despite its name, is not leather. It’s a man-made material intended to mimic the look of leather.

At Sørensen Leather, we only provide 100% genuine, authentic leather.

If it isn’t real leather, it isn’t our leather.

All our leather is high quality 100% real, authentic, genuine leather.
It’s inherently stronger and more durable than fake leather, due to the tight weave of natural collagen fibres.

Which is why leather furniture lasts so long and can be passed on from generation to generation.

In terms of recycling, real leather can easily be re-purposed into another design. Whereas chemical-based fake leather lacks the molecular composition to be recycled.

Genuine leather also ages gracefully, boasting a natural patina that gradually emerges over time.

Each hide is unique, often with subtle imperfections that attest to its origins from nature.
